Scholarships

International Scholarships for Surgical Education

The application is now closed. 

The International Scholarships for Surgical Education provide two $10,000 awards to young faculty members from countries outside the U.S. and Canada. Scholars engage in faculty development at the ·¬ÇÑÉçÇøapp Clinical Congress 2026 in Washington, DC, and visits to leading surgical education centers, gaining skills to enhance surgical training in their home countries.

Highlights:

  • $10,000 scholarship for international surgical educators
  • Participation in ·¬ÇÑÉçÇøapp Clinical Congress and visits to ·¬ÇÑÉçÇøapp-Accredited Education Institutes
  • Focused study plan tailored to the scholar’s educational interests
Eligibility Criteria
  • Graduate of a school of medicine
  • Fully trained surgeon with 5–20 years of experience post-certification
  • Minimum of 1 year in surgical practice, teaching, or research at their permanent institution
  • Must apply from their intended permanent location
  • Demonstrated commitment to high-quality surgery, surgical teaching, and improving access to care
  • Must be proficient in English
  • Preference given to those without prior US/Canada training or fellowships
  • Past ·¬ÇÑÉçÇøapp International Scholarship recipients are not eligible
Location
  • Applicants must be based outside the US and Canada
  • Activities take place in the US
Application Requirements
  • Completed online application
  • Required biosketch (template provided by ·¬ÇÑÉçÇøapp)
  • Statement of objectives and proposed educational focus
  • Three letters of recommendation, including one from:
    • Department chair or
    • ·¬ÇÑÉçÇøapp Fellow in the applicant’s country
  • Letters must be independently prepared and submitted directly by the recommenders
  • All materials must be submitted in English
Award Obligations
  • Must use the award in the designated year (no deferrals)
  • Submit a written report after returning home, detailing the value and impact of the experience
  • May reapply only twice if not selected, with a new application and updated materials
